Advantages of the Baby Bassinet
Not every new parent wants to rest their newborn baby in a crib. Quite often parents will choose to either use a Moses basket or bassinet (also spelled bassinette) for the very early months of the baby’s life because they find them to be more accommodating. The question is why do parents decide to use a bassinet when they know it will be discarded in only a few months time? Isn’t it a better idea, budget-wise, to purchase a full sized crib or convertible crib to get more use out of the baby furniture?
The answer do those questions can’t be found in the wallets of the new parents but can be found in their hearts and imaginations. A bassinet has a lot of practical advantages over the crib, like portability and smaller size, but for the most part it is the symbolic significance of a bassinet that moves parents to choose them over baby cribs.
A bassinet has that classic, dignified, and royal air to it that cribs tend to lack. You can gussy up a child’s bassinet much easier (and for far less money) than you can a baby’s crib. Bassinets also tend to be more easily passed down as heirlooms because their small size makes them more practical to store. All personal significance aside though, bassinets do have a few real advantages over baby cribs that every new parent should know about.

Bassinet Furniture is Portable
Aside from looking great, baby bassinets also tend to have an unmatched portability. A bassinet can be equipped as both a crib and a stroller for the newborn baby so it is very easy to take your baby out for a calming afternoon walk in the park without even waking him up from his mid-morning nap.
The ability to move your baby’s bassinet around the house has its advantages as well. If you decide to purchase a crib you’re most likely going to have to devote an entire room of your house for the nursery. You’ll have to get baby monitors installed all over the place and you’ll be constantly worried whenever you’re in another room. If you go with a bassinet you can cart the baby around the house wherever you go. Whether you’re chopping carrots in the kitchen or taking a nap on the sofa you can have your baby at a constant arms length in a comfortable bassinet mattress.

Smaller Size Means More Snuggles
Cribs are generally made the “one size fits all” way and can often look massive when a newborn baby is placed inside. Bassinets on the other hand are made with the newborn in mind and will fit your baby comfortably and snug within the bassinet sheets. Of course, the smaller size does mean that you won’t be able to use the bassinet as long as you would use a crib but for those first three months or so when your baby fits he will sleep like a King.
Smaller size also means easier storage as well. No one likes to throw away their baby gear. Bassinets, cribs, and Moses baskets make great heirlooms for grandchildren or nephews and nieces and it would be a shame to just throw them out or give them away because there is no more room in the house.

Your Baby’s Comfort is What Matters Most
Cribs may last longer and be more cost effective in the long run than bassinets but it’s not about money. The comfort and good feeling of your newborn child is what should be on your mind and that’s what a bassinet does best. If you’re looking for a good bassinet with beautiful bassinet bedding, three highly recommended brands are the Kolcraft bassinet, Simplicity bassinet, or even a Graco bassinet. All of them are relatively inexpensive and will give you all of the advantages the bassinet is known for.
